- Discuss the plan – Gather household and review escape routes, where to meet outside, and how to call emergency services. Assign roles.
- Simulate the emergency – Sound smoke alarms, pretend some exits are blocked, turn off lights, and require everyone to use the alternate escape plan.
- Provide feedback – Time how long it takes. Identify any issues or delays in the drill. Offer positive reinforcement on what went well.
