Fluorescent light fixture with ballasts (uncommon)
-
- Check the power supply: Ensure that the light fixture is receiving power.
- Check the circuit breaker or fuse box to make sure the circuit is not tripped or the fuse is not blown.
- Inspect the tubes: Examine the fluorescent tubes for any signs of damage or discoloration. If a tube is blackened at the ends or has a dark line running along it, it may be faulty and need replacement. Replace with the same tube model.
- Verify wiring connections: Ensure that all wiring connections within the fixture are secure and properly connected to the ballast.
- Inspect other components: Examine other components of the light fixture, such as sockets and lampholders, for any signs of damage or malfunction.
- Check for voltage fluctuations at the outlet with a multimeter.
- Test with a different ballast: If you have access to a spare ballast, try replacing the existing one to see if that resolves the problem.
- Replace ballast if suspected faulty: Turn off breaker switch associated to light fixture. Remove the cover to expose the internal wiring and ballast. Take photo to document wiring configuration. Disconnect all the wires connected to the old ballast. Unscrew and remove the mounting nut(s) holding the old ballast in place. Mount the new ballast and wiring.
- If still defective, possibly replace the starter.
- If still defective, consult a professional.
